As a college student, there is no better time than now to take in as many events as possible. It is likely that your campus has a variety of concerts and events so that you do not have to go too far. However, it may be overwhelming to decide what to do and what events to go to. Knowing these tips will help you navigate the events or concerts you decide to go to.

Better safe than sorry

Even though there may be security at the event or concert, it is still important to be on your guard when it comes to being safe. This is especially true if you are attending the event alone. Make sure you know where the emergency exits are in case you need them. Be aware of your surroundings and keep your belongings with you. Have your phone on you in case you need to contact someone in an emergency or if you need to catch a ride.  If you are going alone, let your roommate know what time you expect to be home and alert them if something happens.

Take advantage of free events and concerts

One of the perks of being a student is getting things at a discount. Many times, this includes events and concerts, especially if they are taking place on campus. Take advantage of any free events and concerts that are taking place. Even if it is something you do not know that you will definitely like, it will not matter since the event is free. Whether it is a lecture, block party, or a concert, doing new things helps you learn, and these are things that many have to pay for.

Socialize with those around you

Whether you are going to an event out of personal interest or to network, make sure you are making a point to talk to those around you. At a networking event or lecture about something in your field, others present may also be interested in the subject professionally. They may be able to give you advice or connections in the field that can lead to an internship or even a job down the road. If you attend an event out of personal interest, meeting others with the same interest can lead to new friendships. That way, you have someone to go to similar events with, especially if your usual friends are not as into that kind of event.

Find the events

You will not be able to attend events and concerts if you do not know about them! Get on event email lists and look at posters around campus. Look at the websites of different departments of your college and university. Many colleges have an online database that lists different events that are happening. Follow your school on social media and look to see if different departments have their own social media. Knowing about the variety of events on campus can help you decide which ones interest you most and can help you expand your horizons.

Go to student performances

If your college or university has a music department, the students within that major will likely have to put on a concert or recital as a part of their studies. Go to these concerts. The students will appreciate their peers coming out to support them, especially if they do not know them personally. The students in the music department work hard mastering their music so they want to show it off to as many people as possible. Also, do not worry about them being nervous about performing in front of people they do not know. That is part of what they do.

Be prepared for your event

The most important thing to remember for any event is to be prepared for the event. If you are going to a concert, make sure you are at least somewhat familiar with the music the band plays. That way, you will not be disappointed if you were expecting rock but got rap instead. Having a basic knowledge of the music also gives you talking points for interacting with others attending the concert. Know what is and is not allowed into the concert venue and make sure you dress comfortably.

If you are attending a networking event or professional conference on campus, make sure you dress professionally and are aware of the schedule for the day. Bring your business card so that you can give it to potential connections. If you are attending presentations, bring a notebook along to take notes. Be prepared to answer questions based on your personal experiences from internships or from what you are learning in class. Answering questions allows you converse with those in the field and will make you stand out as up and coming in your field.

Whether you are attending a concert or event on campus, these experiences can make your college experience memorable. Being prepared can help you make the experience of the events even better.
