How To Stay Positive When Life Throws You Extremely Bitter Lemons

By Kennisha Crawford on February 26, 2018

It can be a very tedious task to stay positive when everything around you seems to be falling apart. Bills are piling up, you’re behind in classes, your boss is stressing you out and your ceaseless family drama makes you want to run away to Wakanda. They say when “life throws you lemons, make lemonade” but sometimes, the lemons are just too bitter and sour to use.

We all have our moments were we just want to wallow in our negative thinking because that’s how we feel. However, doing so is one of the worst things you can do because you’re giving life to those negative thoughts. When I am battling to stay positive, despite all that is going on in my life, I do a few different things to help keep me positive ….

Prayer: I am a firm believer in God and Jesus. My prayer life is the key to staying positive. I pray throughout the day because it helps me feel connected to God and keeps my mind at peace. Reading The Holy Bible app on my iPhone also helps me because the scriptures are filled with stories to keep my hope, faith and positivity high.

Mediation: Meditating at least 15 minutes a day is another way to not only help you stay positive but also help in clearing up and refreshing your mind and energy. Just taking a little bit of time each day just to unwind and not think about all that you have going on, can help you feel some much-needed peace. It also can help lift your spirits, so you don’t succumb to your pesky negative thoughts.

Reading books: Reading books that offer tips and strategies on staying positive and renewing the mind daily to think positive, can be a tremendous help. Two books in particular that helped me a lot and that I still go back and read on the days I’m just over everything, are Pastor Bill Johnson’s “The Supernatural Power of a Transformed Mind Expanded Edition: Access to a Life of Miracles” and Pastor Joel Osteen’s “Think Better, Live Better: A Victorious Life Begins in Your Mind.”

Posting sticky notes: I love posting positivity-filled sticky notes on my laptop, bathroom mirror and my bed’s headboard. I write various bible scriptures as well as inspiring quotes from people I look up to like Oprah Winfrey, on the sticky notes. They help remind me to stay positive no matter what I may be feeling nor trials and tribulations I may be facing. I find that it’s also a good practice to read something positive and inspiring as soon as you wake up every day because it helps set the tone for your day.

A quote I read the other day said, “what consumes your mind, controls your life”. No matter what you are facing today, strive to remain positive and hopeful! Everything will work out as it should.

Think positivity! Speak positivity! Live positivity!
