Let's Talk About...Safe Sex
It’s summer time, and people want to have fun. For some, that means activities of the sexual nature. And I’m certainly not judging anyone, but I think it’s time people take a step back, and really think about what they’re doing. I surveyed 100 people on the topic; let’s break down the results.
When asked at what age people became sexually active, the answers were as follows:
12-16: 29%
17-20: 45%
21+: 11%
N/A: 15%
I also asked how often people had sex, and 56% partake in it at least once a week. 13% never have sex, so of the other 87% that do, 70% of them use some sort of contraceptive. Granted, some of the people that don’t use protection are probably married, or in a long term committed relationship and feel comfortable with each other. But here’s what worries me, 19% of the people use the withdrawal method, (AKA pulling out). That’s not a legitimate method. There is still a chance of getting pregnant, (1/4 of people surveyed have had a pregnancy scare), and an even greater chance of contracting STI’s. Come on kids, did you not pay attention in sex ed?
Now I’m glad 39% of the people use birth control, but if that’s all they use, and they don’t know the history of their partner, they also are risking the potential of STI’s. 46% use condoms. That’s good. However, there’s still a chance of catching herpes even with a condom; I think it’s around 70% actually. So remember kids, get tested, and have your partner tested as well!
