How to Celebrate Being Single on Valentines Day

By Abigail Reyes on February 11, 2014

With all the social pressure to be in a relationship and hyped up marketing, most singles dread the arrival of Valentine’s Day on their calendar. However, it really does not need to be this way. You should not have to suffer and be depressed if you are not in a relationship by February 14th. There are plenty of ways to celebrate and be happy on Valentine’s Day while living the single life. And who ever said Valentine’s Day was only to be celebrated between lovers? It is not only a day for the glorification of romance, but it is a day in which we celebrate love in general. We celebrate love for oneself, our friends and family, our community and the world. So no matter what your current relationship status is, get up, get dressed and go out and spread the love. I’ve come up with a few ideas so that you can celebrate Valentine’s Day as it is meant to be.

1.    Go out with your friends. No need to be alone on Valentine’s Day! Head to a local restaurant, the movies, the park, wherever it is that your heart takes you.

2.    Treat yourself. Why would you want to spend your money on some guy, when you can treat yourself instead, right? Head over to the hair salon, get a cute manicure, or treat yourself to the spa.

3.    Play Secret Valentine with your friends. For this game, you get a group of friends, draw each others names randomly, and then for the person you picked you must give them a picture of their celebrity crush with funny pick up lines written around the picture, along with some candy.

4.    Indulge in chocolate. Usually the day of, or after Valentine’s Day chocolate and other sweets are discounted by a lot, making it the perfect day to stock up on candy.

5.    Send love someone else’s way. Get those warm, fuzzy feelings by volunteering locally and helping the less fortunate than you. You’ll be spreading love to your community and you’ll feel glad that you did.

6.    Have a dance party. When you have good music playing and a group of friends dancing, you are bound to have a good time. Get some fruit punch out, cookies and chips, and you’re ready to party and dance the night away.
