Aggies Stay Classy in SEC Play

By Drew Chambers on November 1, 2012

There is not much that can be said that hasn’t already been said about Aggie football. Texas A&M is slowly becoming more and more recognized as a national contender and a force to be reckoned with in SEC football.

Being an Aggie is more than football (despite contrary belief). The Aggie spirit relates to being a family, standing for tradition, and many other values that there is not enough time to explain. There is one thing that needs to be adressed and recognized even more so about this Aggie Nation.

All Aggies know that part of being in the family has a lot to do with classiness and respect (Let’s forget the booing vs. hissing argument for the sake of being positive). I must say I am proud and can not express my excitement and joy enough at the news that has been released about the Texas A&M fans in College Station and on road trips to these football games.

Let’s take the first week for example: http://cogris.com/texas-am-aggies-teach-a-florida-gator-a-lesson-in-corporate-culture/

This Florida fan expresses that he was not ready for the hospitality of Aggies and it hasn’t stopped. As I was looking on my Twitter and Facebook feed in the days after the Auburn game, it didn’t take me long to find even more praise for the Aggie fans that traveled: http://trackemtigers.com/?p=1689

The Auburn fan expresses the same shock and awe that the Florida fan showed. It almost brings tears to my eyes to know that we Aggies are doing it right. I must admit, I did not know what or how to expect us to react to our hostile companions in the SEC but from every piece of evidence I have seen we have gone above and beyond the expectations of being not only the loudest and proudest fans of our Fightin’ Texas Aggies, but also the most hospitable and genuine.

Some universities and organizations take pride in how ruthless their fans are to others and how “strong” and “mean” they can be, but we at Texas A&M have proven that we would rather smile to your face and beat you on the field.

To all my good Ags out there I just want to say thank you for showing your true Aggie spirit, the support of our football team does not have to begin or end with negative and cruel statements to other fans and that is a lesson we have displayed thus far.

I have said this for many reasons but I could not be more proud to say, “I am proud to be an Aggie” because of how genuine true southern kindness has been shown to those that we have played. Jesus said love your enemies and I believe we are a prime example of that. Keep it up Ags!!!

God bless and Gig ‘em! ’13
