7 "Girl Meets World" Moments That "Boy Meets World" Fans Must See
Disney Channel brought back Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence this Summer in the new series, Girl Meets World. GMW is a spinoff of the popular 90s sitcom Boy Meets World, and BMW fans should check out all of the nods to the original show below.
1. The theme song for Girl Meets World is a lot like the opening for the earliest seasons of Boy Meets World. The paper airplane theme has proved to be timeless.
2. Mr. Feeny made an appearance in the pilot episode to remind kids to stay in school and give his old student Cory some words of encouragement.
3. As if you ever had any doubt, Cory and his longtime love Topanga are stronger than ever. Any scene that includes Mr. and Mrs. Matthews reminds 90s kids that true love exists.
4. Lee Norris, who played nerd Stuart Minkus on Boy Meets World, stopped by Cory’s classroom (he’s a history teacher just like Mr. Feeny was!) to visit his son Farkle. Topanga fought Minkus to have the most A’s and win valedictorian in high school, but the competition didn’t stop there. Riley, Topanga’s daughter, and Farkle were brought into it and they all argued over who had the most combined A’s.
5.Bad-boy Griff Hawkins got a nod in a recent episode of Girl Meets World when Cory compared his student and Riley’s best friend Maya to him.
6. Topanga, who was struggling with her identity as a lawyer and a free spirit, had a talk with her “old self” to help her make a career decision. The hair, the dress and the necklace brought us back to the early days of Boy Meets World and helped us remember why we always loved Topanga.
7. To help teach this generation a lesson about bullying, former John Quincy Adams Middle School bully Harley Keiner returned, and it was revealed that Cory forgave him for bullying him and even helped him get a job as a janitor.
The best part? There’s more to come! Cory’s parents, Allen and Amy, and his BFF Shawn are all set to appear on an upcoming episode! The only person missing is Cory’s brother Eric, but if the stellar Girl Meets World ratings continue, then there’s plenty of time for the oldest Matthews to stop by.
